If you have any words, ¹  reply to me; speak, for I want to justify you. ² 

Then I will have a reply for the one who insults me, ¹  for I trust in your word.

Be wise, my son, ¹  and make my heart glad, so that I may answer ²  anyone who taunts me. ³ 

Then the Lord provoked ¹  their adversaries to attack them, ²  he stirred up ³  their enemies –

They were silent and did not respond, for the king had ordered, “Don’t respond to him.”

Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you. Go away from me, you lawbreakers!’ ¹ 

And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But he had nothing to say. ¹ 

In ¹  reply all the people said, “Let his blood be on us and on our children!”

Then ¹  he said to her, “Because you said this, you may go. The demon has left your daughter.”

One of the experts in religious law ¹  answered him, “Teacher, when you say these things you insult ²  us too.”

And because they saw the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say against this. ¹ 

Then ¹  I heard the altar reply, ²  “Yes, Lord God, the All-Powerful, ³  your judgments are true and just!”

We said, ‘If in the future they say such a thing ¹  to us or to our descendants, we will reply, “See the model of the Lord’s altar that our ancestors ²  made, not for burnt offerings or sacrifices, but as a reminder to us and you.”’ ³ 

then you must say, ¹  ‘They belong ²  to your servant Jacob. ³  They have been sent as a gift to my lord Esau. ⁴  In fact Jacob himself is behind us.’” ⁵ 

Then Moses said to Aaron, “Tell the whole community ¹  of the Israelites, ‘Come ²  before the Lord, because he has heard your murmurings.’”

When the sound of the horn grew louder and louder, ¹  Moses was speaking ²  and God was answering him with a voice. ³ 

‘Cursed is the one who perverts justice for the resident foreigner, the orphan, and the widow.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’

‘Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with ¹  his father’s former wife, ²  for he dishonors his father.’ ³  Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’

‘Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his sister, the daughter of either his father or mother.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’

‘Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his mother-in-law.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’
