The ¹  next day (which is after the day of preparation) the chief priests and the Pharisees ²  assembled before Pilate

Then ¹  Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus into their hands. ² 

He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers of the temple guard ¹  how he might ²  betray Jesus, ³  handing him over to them. ⁴ 

Then ¹  Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no basis for an accusation ²  against this man.”

and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over ¹  to be condemned to death, and crucified ²  him.

“While doing this very thing, ¹  as I was going ²  to Damascus with authority and complete power ³  from the chief priests,

But there were not enough priests to skin all the animals, ¹  so their brothers, the Levites, helped them until the work was finished and the priests could consecrate themselves. (The Levites had been more conscientious about consecrating themselves than the priests.) ² 

But he did not purchase the land of the priests because the priests had an allotment from Pharaoh and they ate from their allotment that Pharaoh gave them. That is why they did not sell their land.

Then the king said to Doeg, “You turn and strike down the priests!” So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck down the priests. He killed on that day eighty-five ¹  men who wore the linen ephod.

The priests were unable to enter the Lord’s temple because the Lord’s splendor filled the Lord’s temple.
