But Rehoboam rejected their advice and consulted the young advisers who served him, with whom he had grown up. ¹ 

These were the ones who served the king, besides those whom the king placed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.

They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your mighty strength and by your powerful hand.

Why is light given ¹  to a man ²  whose way is hidden, ³  and whom God has hedged in? ⁴ 

“Therefore, ¹  blessed ²  is the man whom God corrects, ³  so do not despise the discipline ⁴  of the Almighty. ⁵ 

Even my close friend ¹  whom I trusted, he who shared meals with me, has turned against me. ²

All the nations, whom you created, will come and worship you, ¹  O Lord. They will honor your name.

I say this about the Lord, my shelter and my stronghold, my God in whom I trust –

Let those delivered by the Lord speak out, ¹  those whom he delivered ²  from the power ³  of the enemy,

The Lord avenges me. ¹  O Lord, your loyal love endures. Do not abandon those whom you have made! ² 

For the Lord disciplines ¹  those he loves, just as a father ²  disciplines ³  the son in whom he delights.

Say to them, ¹  ‘Whom do you surpass in beauty? ²  Go down and be laid to rest with the uncircumcised!’
