He built high places for all his foreign wives so they could burn incense and make sacrifices to their gods. ¹ 

The high places were not eliminated, yet Asa was wholeheartedly devoted to the Lord throughout his lifetime. ¹ 

He offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.

They set up sacred pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.

He removed the pagan altars ¹  and the high places, smashed the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles. ² 

The high places were not eliminated from Israel, yet Asa was wholeheartedly devoted to the Lord throughout his lifetime. ¹ 

He was committed to following the Lord; ¹  he even removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.

However, the high places were not eliminated; the people were still not devoted to the God of their ancestors. ¹ 

He offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.

The people continued to offer sacrifices at the high places, but only to the Lord their God.

That day ¹  – let it be darkness; ²  let not God on high regard ³  it, nor let light shine ⁴  on it!

What then would be one’s lot from God above, one’s heritage from the Almighty ¹  on high?

(the ransom price for a human life ¹  is too high, and people go to their final destiny), ² 

Do not be so certain you have won! ¹  Do not speak with your head held so high! ² 

For you, O Lord, are the sovereign king ¹  over the whole earth; you are elevated high above all gods.

For as the skies are high above the earth, so his loyal love towers ¹  over his faithful followers. ² 

As the heaven is high ¹  and the earth is deep so the hearts of kings are unsearchable. ² 

The fear of people ¹  becomes ²  a snare, ³  but whoever trusts in the Lord will be set on high. ⁴ 

for all the cedars of Lebanon, that are so high and mighty, for all the oaks of Bashan; ¹ 

I will climb up to the tops ¹  of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High!” ²
