The children of Amram: Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. The sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

O children ¹  of Israel, God’s ²  servant, you descendants of Jacob, God’s ³  chosen ones!

All the men of Judah ¹  were standing before the Lord, along with their infants, wives, and children.

You will also know that your children ¹  will be numerous, and your descendants ²  like the grass of the earth.

He has neither children nor descendants ¹  among his people, no survivor in those places he once stayed. ² 

He will defend ¹  the oppressed among the people; he will deliver ²  the children ³  of the poor and crush the oppressor.

The children of your servants will settle down here, and their descendants ¹  will live securely in your presence.” ² 

As a father has compassion on his children, ¹  so the Lord has compassion on his faithful followers. ² 

O children ¹  of Abraham, ²  God’s ³  servant, you descendants ⁴  of Jacob, God’s ⁵  chosen ones!

May the Lord be constantly aware of them, ¹  and cut off the memory of his children ²  from the earth!

Listen, children, ²  to a father’s instruction, ³  and pay attention so that ⁴  you may gain ⁵  discernment.

In the fear of the Lord one has ¹  strong confidence, ²  and it will be a refuge ³  for his children.

Their children will be smashed to pieces before their very eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives raped.

He said, “Certainly they will be my people, children who are not disloyal.” ¹  He became their deliverer.

Indeed, there is hope for your posterity. ¹  Your children will return to their own territory. I, the Lord, affirm it! ² 

י (Yod) The hands of tenderhearted women ¹  cooked their own children, who became their food, ²  when my people ³  were destroyed. ⁴ 

therefore you will no longer devour people and no longer bereave your nation of children, declares the sovereign Lord.

You wrongly evict widows ¹  among my people from their cherished homes. You defraud their children ²  of their prized inheritance. ³ 

keeping loyal love for thousands, ¹  forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin. But he by no means leaves the guilty unpunished, responding to the transgression ²  of fathers by dealing with children and children’s children, to the third and fourth generation.”

Now Sarai, ¹  Abram’s wife, had not given birth to any children, ²  but she had an Egyptian servant ³  named Hagar. ⁴
