When he knocked at the door of the outer gate, a slave girl named Rhoda answered. ¹ 

Ahab asked, “By whom will this be accomplished?” ¹  He answered, “This is what the Lord says, ‘By the servants of the district governors.’” Ahab ²  asked, “Who will launch the attack?” He answered, “You will.”

But the Lord’s angel ¹  called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am!” he answered.

The Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh answered the leaders ¹  of the Israelite clans:

“When the leaders took the lead ¹  in Israel, When the people answered the call to war – Praise the Lord!

When he turned around and saw me, he called out to me. I answered, ‘Here I am!’

The king replied to her, “What do you want?” ¹  She answered, “I am a widow; my husband is dead.

The Lord answered Elijah’s prayer; the boy’s breath returned to him and he lived.

If I summoned him, and he answered me, ¹  I would not believe ²  that he would be listening to my voice –

Rescue me from the mouth of the lion, ¹  and from the horns of the wild oxen! ²  You have answered me! ³ 

I sought the Lord’s help ¹  and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

A song of ascents. ²  In my distress I cried out to the Lord and he answered me.

Later the Lord asked me, “What do you see, Jeremiah?” I answered, “I see a branch of an almond tree.”

They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, ¹  and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

He answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female, ¹ 

Jesus ¹  answered them, “You are deceived, ²  because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God.

He ¹  answered, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me ²  will betray me.

She answered, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

His disciples answered him, “Where can someone get enough bread in this desolate place to satisfy these people?”

He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, ¹  “You are the Christ.” ²
