While the battle raged throughout the day, the king stood propped up in his chariot opposite the Syrians. He died in the evening; the blood from the wound ran down into the bottom of the chariot.

he who ¹  crushes ²  me with a tempest, and multiplies my wounds for no reason. ³ 

I said to myself, ‘Age ¹  should speak, ²  and length of years ³  should make wisdom known.’

Deliver me from my distress; ¹  rescue me from my suffering! ² 

Hold them accountable for all their sins! ¹  Do not vindicate them! ² 

Indeed, she lies in wait like a robber, ¹  and increases the unfaithful ²  among men. ³ 

under a servant ¹  who becomes king, under a fool who is stuffed with food, ² 

I increased my possessions: ¹  I built houses for myself; ²  I planted vineyards for myself.

So like a lion from the thicket their enemies will kill them. Like a wolf from the desert they will destroy them. Like a leopard they will lie in wait outside their cities and totally destroy anyone who ventures out. ¹  For they have rebelled so much and done so many unfaithful things. ² 

The side chambers surrounding the temple were wider at each successive story; ¹  for the structure ²  surrounding the temple went up story by story all around the temple. For this reason the width of the temple increased as it went up, and one went up from the lowest story to the highest by the way of the middle story.

But the word of God ¹  kept on increasing ²  and multiplying.

In this way the word of the Lord ¹  continued to grow in power ²  and to prevail. ³ 

I prayed, ¹  “O my God, I am ashamed and embarrassed to lift my face to you, my God! For our iniquities have climbed higher than our heads, and our guilt extends to the heavens.

So the Lord ¹  restored what Job had lost ²  after he prayed for his friends, ³  and the Lord doubled ⁴  all that had belonged to Job.

Look at Abraham, your father, and Sarah, who gave you birth. ¹  When I summoned him, he was a lone individual, ²  but I blessed him ³  and gave him numerous descendants. ⁴ 

All your allies have abandoned you. ¹  They no longer have any concern for you. For I have attacked you like an enemy would. I have chastened you cruelly. For your wickedness is so great and your sin is so much. ² 

ה (He) The Lord, ¹  like an enemy, destroyed ²  Israel. He destroyed ³  all her palaces; he ruined her ⁴  fortified cities. He made everyone in Daughter Judah mourn and lament. ⁵ 

“I destroyed your crops ¹  with blight and disease. Locusts kept ²  devouring your orchards, ³  vineyards, fig trees, and olive trees. Still you did not come back to me.” The Lord is speaking!

Nor do we boast beyond certain limits ¹  in the work ²  done by others, but we hope ³  that as your faith continues to grow, our work may be greatly expanded ⁴  among you according to our limits, ⁵ 

Then I will confirm my covenant ¹  between me and you, and I will give you a multitude of descendants.” ²
