Give strong drink to the one who is perishing, ¹  and wine to those who are bitterly distressed; ² 

headdresses, ankle ornaments, sashes, sachets, ¹  amulets,

They will hear, ‘Run! Save yourselves! Even if you must be like a lonely shrub in the desert!’ ¹ 

I ¹  am deprived ²  of peace; ³  I have forgotten what happiness ⁴  is.

I ¹  continually think about ²  this, and I ³  am depressed. ⁴ 

ט (Tet) The Lord is good to those who trust ¹  in him, to the one ²  who seeks him.

What my eyes see ¹  grieves me ²  – all the suffering of the daughters in my city. ³ 

ר (Resh) O Lord, ¹  you championed ²  my cause, ³  you redeemed my life.

At the risk ¹  of our lives ²  we get our food ³  because robbers lurk ⁴  in the countryside. ⁵ 

For your lifeblood ¹  I will surely exact punishment, ²  from ³  every living creature I will exact punishment. From each person ⁴  I will exact punishment for the life of the individual ⁵  since the man was his relative. ⁶ 

All the direct descendants of Jacob who went to Egypt with him were sixty-six in number. (This number does not include the wives of Jacob’s sons.) ¹ 

Counting the two sons ¹  of Joseph who were born to him in Egypt, all the people of the household of Jacob who were in Egypt numbered seventy. ² 

The person who eats meat from the peace offering sacrifice which belongs to the Lord while his uncleanness persists ¹  will be cut off from his people. ² 

This is the law ¹  of the land animals, the birds, all the living creatures that move in the water, and all the creatures ²  that swarm on the land,

“‘The person who turns to the spirits of the dead and familiar spirits ²  to commit prostitution by going after them, I will set my face ³  against that person and cut him off from the midst of his people.

As for any person ¹  who does any work on this particular day, I will exterminate ²  that person from the midst of his people! ³ 

“‘But the person ¹  who acts defiantly, ²  whether native-born or a resident foreigner, insults ³  the Lord. ⁴  That person ⁵  must be cut off ⁶  from among his people.

and 32,000 young women who had never had sexual intercourse with a man. ¹ 

“Whoever kills any person, the murderer must be put to death by the testimony ¹  of witnesses; but one witness cannot ²  testify against any person to cause him to be put to death.

However, by no means eat the blood, for the blood is life itself ¹  – you must not eat the life with the meat!
