The battle was thick ¹  around Saul; the archers spotted him and wounded him. ² 

They will not be ashamed when hard times come; ¹  when famine comes they will have enough to eat. ² 

who turned a rock into a pool of water, a hard rock into springs of water! ¹ 

Blessed is the one who is always cautious, ¹  but whoever hardens his heart ²  will fall into evil.

“You have criticized me sharply,” ¹  says the Lord, “but you ask, ‘How have we criticized you?’

We do hard work, toiling with our own hands. When we are verbally abused, we respond with a blessing, when persecuted, we endure,

We are experiencing trouble on every side, ¹  but are not crushed; we are perplexed, ²  but not driven to despair;

But remember the former days when you endured a harsh conflict of suffering after you were enlightened.

And if the righteous are barely saved, what will become of ¹  the ungodly and sinners? ² 

The Philistines stayed right on the heels of ¹  Saul and his sons. They ²  struck down Saul’s ³  sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malki-Shua.

For I was afraid of you, because you are a severe ¹  man. You withdraw ²  what you did not deposit ³  and reap what you did not sow.’

speaking of these things in all his letters. ¹  Some things in these letters ²  are hard to understand, things ³  the ignorant and unstable twist ⁴  to their own destruction, as they also do to the rest of the scriptures. ⁵ 

They ¹  must not discriminate in judgment, but hear the lowly ²  and the great alike. Nor should they be intimidated by human beings, for judgment belongs to God. If the matter being adjudicated is too difficult for them, they should bring it before me for a hearing.

When the queen of Sheba heard about Solomon, ¹  she came to challenge ²  him ³  with difficult questions. ⁴  She arrived in Jerusalem ⁵  with a great display of pomp, ⁶  bringing with her camels carrying spices, ⁷  a very large quantity of gold, and precious gems. She visited Solomon and discussed with him everything that was on her mind.

See my pain and suffering! Forgive all my sins! ¹ 

My soul ¹  pursues you; ²  your right hand upholds me.

They spew out threats ¹  and speak defiantly; all the evildoers boast. ² 

The Lord severely ¹  punished me, but he did not hand me over to death.

“Son of man, King Nebuchadrezzar ¹  of Babylon made his army labor hard against Tyre. ²  Every head was rubbed bald and every shoulder rubbed bare; yet he and his army received no wages from Tyre for the work he carried out against it.

Woe ¹  to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing their babies in those days!
