For he was still in his ancestor Abraham’s loins ¹  when Melchizedek met him.

For if that first covenant had been faultless, no one would have looked for a second one. ¹ 

For he gazes at himself and then goes out and immediately forgets ¹  what sort of person he was.

For ¹  this is the gospel ²  message ³  that you have heard from the beginning: that we should love one another, ⁴ 

Now ¹  there was a man in Jerusalem ²  named Simeon who was righteous ³  and devout, looking for the restoration ⁴  of Israel, and the Holy Spirit ⁵  was upon him.

On ¹  another Sabbath, Jesus ²  entered the synagogue ³  and was teaching. Now ⁴  a man was there whose right hand was withered. ⁵ 

As he approached the town gate, a man ¹  who had died was being carried out, ²  the only son of his mother (who ³  was a widow ⁴ ), and a large crowd from the town ⁵  was with her.

John ¹  testified ²  about him and shouted out, ³  “This one was the one about whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is greater than I am, ⁴  because he existed before me.’”

(Now the slaves ¹  and the guards ²  were standing around a charcoal fire they had made, warming themselves because it was cold. ³  Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.) ⁴ 

Thus many of the Jewish residents of Jerusalem ¹  read this notice, ²  because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the notice was written in Aramaic, ³  Latin, and Greek.

The group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, ¹  and no one said that any of his possessions was his own, but everything was held in common. ² 

Now the passage of scripture the man ¹  was reading was this: “He was led like a sheep to slaughter, and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did ²  not open his mouth.

not like Cain ¹  who was of the evil one and brutally ²  murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his deeds were evil, but his brother’s were righteous.

But when the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he was very rich. ¹ 

(Now Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there, opposite the tomb.)

His ¹  appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.

Then ¹  Jesus ²  entered the synagogue ³  again, and a man was there who had a withered ⁴  hand.

The girl got up at once and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). They were completely astonished at this. ¹ 

When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea and he was alone on the land.

But at this statement, the man ¹  looked sad and went away sorrowful, for he was very rich. ²
