that ¹  the Christ ²  was to suffer and be the first to rise from the dead, to proclaim light both to our people ³  and to the Gentiles.” ⁴ 

But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

To them belong the patriarchs, ¹  and from them, ²  by human descent, ³  came the Christ, ⁴  who is God over all, blessed forever! ⁵  Amen.

For if your brother or sister ¹  is distressed because of what you eat, ²  you are no longer walking in love. ³  Do not destroy by your food someone for whom Christ died.

For even Christ did not please himself, but just as it is written, “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.” ¹

For I passed on to you as of first importance ¹  what I also received – that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures,

Now if Christ is being preached as raised from the dead, ¹  how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead?

Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you – unless, indeed, you fail the test! ¹ 

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming ¹  a curse for us (because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”) ² 

and live ¹  in love, just as Christ also loved us ²  and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering ³  to God.

Husbands, love your ¹  wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her

For no one has ever hated his own body ¹  but he feeds it and takes care of it, just as Christ also does the church,

What is the result? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is being proclaimed, and in this I rejoice. Yes, ¹  and I will continue to rejoice,

Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

Here there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave ¹  or free, but Christ is all and in all.

This saying ¹  is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” – and I am the worst of them! ²
