you animals and all you cattle, you creeping things and birds,

rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth, ¹  and delighting ²  in its people. ³ 

There are four things on earth that are small, ¹  but they are exceedingly wise: ² 

These people are divisive, ¹  worldly, ²  devoid of the Spirit. ³ 

God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the cattle according to their kinds, and all the creatures that creep along the ground according to their kinds. God saw that it was good.

And to all the animals of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to all the creatures that move on the ground – everything that has the breath of life in it – I give ¹  every green plant for food.” It was so.

So God said ¹  to Noah, “I have decided that all living creatures must die, ²  for the earth is filled with violence because of them. Now I am about to destroy ³  them and the earth.

then I will remember my covenant with you ¹  and with all living creatures of all kinds. ²  Never again will the waters become a flood and destroy ³  all living things. ⁴ 

When the rainbow is in the clouds, I will notice it and remember ¹  the perpetual covenant between God and all living creatures of all kinds that are on the earth.”

All that walk on their paws among all the creatures that walk on all fours ¹  are unclean to you. Anyone who touches their carcass will be unclean until the evening,

You must not eat anything that crawls ¹  on its belly or anything that walks on all fours or on any number of legs ²  of all the swarming things that swarm on the land, because they are detestable.

They will be starved by famine, eaten by plague, and bitterly stung; ¹  I will send the teeth of wild animals against them, along with the poison of creatures that crawl in the dust.

Look at the land of the Chaldeans, these people who have lost their identity! ¹  The Assyrians have made it a home for wild animals. They erected their siege towers, ²  demolished ³  its fortresses, and turned it into a heap of ruins. ⁴ 

They will lick the dust like a snake, like serpents crawling on the ground. ¹  They will come trembling from their strongholds to the Lord our God; ²  they will be terrified ³  of you. ⁴ 

especially those who indulge their fleshly desires ¹  and who despise authority. Brazen and insolent, ²  they are not afraid to insult ³  the glorious ones, ⁴ 

But any other winged swarming thing that has four legs is detestable to you.

“‘By these ¹  you defile yourselves; anyone who touches their carcass will be unclean until the evening,

Let the sea and everything in it shout! Let the fields and everything in them celebrate!

You will laugh at destruction and famine ¹  and need not ²  be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

“But now, ask the animals and they ²  will teach you, or the birds of the sky and they will tell you.
