When they read it aloud, ¹  the people ²  rejoiced at its encouragement. ³ 

Esau said to his father, “Do you have only that one blessing, my father? Bless me too!” ¹  Then Esau wept loudly. ² 

When Jotham heard the news, ¹  he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim. He spoke loudly to the people below, ²  “Listen to me, leaders of Shechem, so that God may listen to you!

But when they gazed intently ¹  from a distance but did not recognize ²  him, they began to weep loudly. Each of them tore his robes, and they threw dust into the air over their heads. ³ 

The people of ¹  Heshbon and Elealeh cry out, their voices are heard as far away as Jahaz. For this reason Moab’s soldiers shout in distress; their courage wavers. ² 

צ (Tsade) Cry out ¹  from your heart ²  to the Lord, ³  O wall of Daughter Zion! ⁴  Make your tears flow like a river all day and all night long! ⁵  Do not rest; do not let your tears ⁶  stop!

The Lord’s great day of judgment ¹  is almost here; it is approaching very rapidly! There will be a bitter sound on the Lord’s day of judgment; at that time warriors will cry out in battle. ² 

For it is written: “Rejoice, O barren woman who does not bear children; ¹  break forth and shout, you who have no birth pains, because the children of the desolate woman are more numerous than those of the woman who has a husband.” ² 

“Even today my complaint is still bitter; ¹  his ²  hand is heavy despite ³  my groaning.

Come! Let’s sing for joy to the Lord! Let’s shout out praises to our protector who delivers us! ² 

Moab is my wash basin. ¹  I will make Edom serve me. ²  I will shout in triumph over Philistia.”

indeed, if ¹  you call out for ²  discernment ³  – raise your voice ⁴  for understanding –

Look, ambassadors ¹  cry out in the streets; messengers sent to make peace ²  weep bitterly.

As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, shouting, ¹  “Have mercy ²  on us, Son of David!” ³ 

‘We played the flute for you, yet you did not dance; ¹  we wailed in mourning, ²  yet you did not weep.’

They will come and shout for joy on Mount Zion. They will be radiant with joy ¹  over the good things the Lord provides, the grain, the fresh wine, the olive oil, the young sheep and calves he has given to them. They will be like a well-watered garden and will not grow faint or weary any more.

Then ¹  Joshua read aloud all the words of the law, including the blessings and the curses, just as they are written in the law scroll.

When the Lord’s messenger finished speaking these words to all the Israelites, the people wept loudly. ¹ 

Then David and the men ¹  who were with him wept loudly ²  until they could weep no more. ³ 

So they buried Abner in Hebron. The king cried loudly ¹  over Abner’s grave and all the people wept too.
