But Edom said to him, “You will not pass through me, ¹  or I will come out against ²  you with the sword.”

Again, however, pay very careful attention, ¹  lest you forget the things you have seen and disregard them for the rest of your life; instead teach them to your children and grandchildren.

I say this ¹  so you will not corrupt yourselves by making an image in the form of any kind of figure. This includes the likeness of a human male or female,

be careful not to forget the Lord who brought you out of Egypt, that place of slavery. ¹ 

The judge ¹  may sentence him to forty blows, ²  but no more. If he is struck with more than these, you might view your fellow Israelite ³  with contempt.

We must let them live so we can escape the curse attached to the oath we swore to them.” ¹ 

Look at me! ¹  Answer me, O Lord my God! Revive me, ²  or else I will die! ³ 

Carefully consider this, you who reject God! ¹  Otherwise I will rip you to shreds ²  and no one will be able to rescue you.

Indeed, ¹  the scepter of a wicked king ²  will not settle ³  upon the allotted land of the godly. Otherwise the godly might do what is wrong. ⁴ 

O Lord, do not let the wicked have their way! ¹  Do not allow their ²  plan to succeed when they attack! ³  (Selah)

Also, do not pay attention to everything that people ¹  say; otherwise, ²  you might even hear ³  your servant cursing you.

I, the Lord, protect it; ¹  I water it regularly. ²  I guard it night and day, so no one can harm it. ³ 

Now they come into being, ¹  not in the past; before today you did not hear about them, so you could not say, ‘Yes, ²  I know about them.’

Because of the crowd, he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him so the crowd ¹  would not press toward him.

“When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, ¹  do not take ²  the place of honor, because a person more distinguished than you may have been invited by your host. ³ 

(for I have five brothers) to warn ¹  them so that they don’t come ²  into this place of torment.’

For everyone who does evil deeds hates the light and does not come to the light, so that their deeds will not be exposed.

And in this way I desire to preach where Christ has not been named, so as not to build on another person’s foundation,

For this reason, if food causes my brother or sister to sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I may not cause one of them ¹  to sin.

See to it, ¹  brothers and sisters, ²  that none of you has ³  an evil, unbelieving heart that forsakes ⁴  the living God. ⁵
