I am thankful to God, whom I have served with a clear conscience as my ancestors did, ¹  when I remember you in my prayers as I do constantly night and day. ² 

I will make you ¹  extremely ²  fruitful. I will make nations of you, and kings will descend from you. ³ 

So Joseph moved them from Israel’s knees ¹  and bowed down with his face to the ground.

Joseph instructed the physicians in his service ¹  to embalm his father, so the physicians embalmed Israel.

Moreover, the strength of their ¹  hands – what use was it to me? Men whose strength ²  had perished;

All this has happened to us, even though we have not rejected you ¹  or violated your covenant with us. ² 

I will remember the works of the Lord. Yes, I will remember the amazing things you did long ago! ¹ 

A foolish child ¹  is the ruin of his father, and a contentious wife ²  is like ³  a constant dripping. ⁴ 

Her husband is well-known ¹  in the city gate ²  when he sits with the elders ³  of the land.

Their children will be smashed to pieces before their very eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives raped.

“Suppose such a man has ¹  a violent son who sheds blood and does any of these things ²  mentioned previously

Then ¹  someone from the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell ²  my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”

The ¹  patriarchs, because they were jealous of Joseph, sold ²  him into Egypt. But ³  God was with him,

Rather, he must acknowledge the son of the less loved ¹  wife as firstborn and give him the double portion ²  of all he has, for that son is the beginning of his father’s procreative power ³  – to him should go the right of the firstborn.

When we invade the land ¹ , tie this red rope ²  in the window through which you let us down, and gather together in your house your father, mother, brothers, and all who live in your father’s house. ³ 

They went before Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders and said, “The Lord told Moses to assign us land among our relatives.” ¹  So Joshua ²  assigned them land among their uncles, as the Lord had commanded. ³ 

When he saw the angel who was destroying the people, David said to the Lord, “Look, it is I who have sinned and done this evil thing! As for these sheep – what have they done? Attack me and my family.” ¹ 

David said to God, “Was I not the one who decided to number the army? I am the one who sinned and committed this awful deed! ¹  As for these sheep – what have they done? O Lord my God, attack me and my family, ²  but remove the plague from your people!” ³ 

All of these were under the supervision of their fathers; they were musicians in the Lord’s temple, playing cymbals and stringed instruments as they served in God’s temple. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the supervision of the king.
