“Take the staff and assemble the community, you and Aaron your brother, and then speak ¹  to the rock before their eyes. It will pour forth ²  its water, and you will bring water out of the rock for them, and so you will give the community and their beasts water to drink.”

They bear fruit even when they are old; they are filled with vitality and have many leaves. ¹ 

You were bought with a price. Do not become slaves of men.

Foreigners are powerless before me; ¹  when they hear of my exploits, they submit to me. ² 

Relent, ¹  let there be no falsehood; ²  reconsider, ³  for my righteousness is intact! ⁴ 

“Reconcile yourself ¹  with God, ²  and be at peace ³  with him; in this way your prosperity will be good.

When they hear of my exploits, they submit to me. ¹  Foreigners are powerless ²  before me;

And do not lead us into temptation, ¹  but deliver us from the evil one. ² 

Then ¹  a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One. ²  Listen to him!” ³ 

Because he could not be persuaded, ¹  we said no more except, ²  “The Lord’s will be done.” ³ 

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires,

He built a hedge around it, ¹  removed its stones, and planted a vine. He built a tower in the middle of it, and constructed a winepress. He waited for it to produce edible grapes, but it produced sour ones instead. ² 

So do not let them persuade you to do this, ¹  because more than forty of them ²  are lying in ambush ³  for him. They ⁴  have bound themselves with an oath ⁵  not to eat or drink anything ⁶  until they have killed him, and now they are ready, waiting for you to agree to their request.” ⁷ 

Six years you may sow your field, and six years you may prune your vineyard and gather the produce, ¹ 

Joshua said, ¹  “Now put aside the foreign gods that are among you and submit to ²  the Lord God of Israel.”

Say to God: “How awesome are your deeds! Because of your great power your enemies cower in fear ¹  before you.

In a good field, by abundant waters, it was planted to grow branches, bear fruit, and become a beautiful vine.

But ¹  other seed fell on good soil and produced grain, sprouting and growing; some yielded thirty times as much, some sixty, and some a hundred times.”

and forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins ¹  against us. And do not lead us into temptation.” ² 

So ¹  the master said to his ²  slave, ‘Go out to the highways ³  and country roads ⁴  and urge ⁵  people ⁶  to come in, so that my house will be filled. ⁷
