“But if he strikes him suddenly, without enmity, or throws anything at him unintentionally,

For they harass ¹  the one whom you discipline; ²  they spread the news about the suffering of those whom you punish. ³ 

Their tongues wound like a serpent; ¹  a viper’s ²  venom is behind ³  their lips. (Selah)

Speech ¹  that heals ²  is like ³  a life-giving tree, ⁴  but a perverse tongue ⁵  breaks the spirit.

My heart is crushed because my dear people ¹  are being crushed. ²  I go about crying and grieving. I am overwhelmed with dismay. ³
