For I see everything they do. Their wicked ways are not hidden from me. Their sin is not hidden away where I cannot see it. ¹ 

While I, Daniel, was watching the vision, I sought to understand it. Now one who appeared to be a man was standing before me.

And when the blood of your witness ¹  Stephen was shed, ²  I myself was standing nearby, approving, ³  and guarding the cloaks ⁴  of those who were killing him.’ ⁵ 

His sister stationed herself ¹  at a distance to find out ²  what would ³  happen to him.

Then the Lord said to Moses: “I have seen this people. ¹  Look ²  what a stiff-necked people they are! ³ 

I was blameless before him; I kept myself from sinning. ¹ 

“Surely now you count my steps; ²  then you would not mark ³  my sin. ⁴ 

¹ He puts my feet in shackles; he watches closely all my paths.’

From there it spots ¹  its prey, ²  its eyes gaze intently from a distance.

I rested and slept; I awoke, ¹  for the Lord protects ²  me.

I was innocent before him, and kept myself from sinning. ¹ 

The Lord’s angel camps around the Lord’s ¹  loyal followers ²  and delivers them. ³ 

Evil men set an ambush for the godly and try to kill them. ¹ 

Surely it is futile to spread ¹  a net in plain sight of ²  any bird, ³ 

to guard ¹  the paths of the righteous ²  and to protect ³  the way of his pious ones. ⁴ 

Discretion ¹  will protect you, ²  understanding will guard you,

For at the window of my house through my window lattice I looked out

and I saw among the naive – I discerned among the youths ¹  – a young man ²  who lacked wisdom. ³ 

The Lord continued, ¹  “Now break the jar in front of those who have come here with you.

“Therefore stay alert, because you do not know on what day ¹  your Lord will come.
