People from ¹  two or three cities staggered into one city to get ²  water, but remained thirsty. ³  Still you did not come back to me.” The Lord is speaking!

If a place will not welcome you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off ¹  your feet as a testimony against them.”

but the villagers ¹  refused to welcome ²  him, because he was determined to go to Jerusalem. ³ 

So when the Samaritans came to him, they began asking ¹  him to stay with them. ²  He stayed there two days,

“Very well,” he replied, ¹  “I will grant this request too ²  and will not overthrow ³  the town you mentioned.

Run there quickly, ¹  for I cannot do anything until you arrive there.” (This incident explains why the town was called Zoar.) ² 

He made the camels kneel down by the well ¹  outside the city. It was evening, ²  the time when the women would go out to draw water.

Here I am, standing by the spring, ¹  and the daughters of the people ²  who live in the town are coming out to draw water.

So he returned to Judah and said, “I couldn’t find her. Moreover, the men of the place said, ‘There has been no cult prostitute here.’”

When David and his men came to the city, they found it burned. ¹  Their wives, sons, and daughters had been taken captive.
