Jesus told them this parable, ¹  but they ²  did not understand ³  what he was saying to them.

I am a debtor ¹  both to the Greeks and to the barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.

For I decided to be concerned about nothing ¹  among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,

You will be enriched in every way so that you may be generous on every occasion, ¹  which is producing through us thanksgiving to God,

So also we, when we were minors, ¹  were enslaved under the basic forces ²  of the world.

Therefore, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, ¹  continue to live your lives ²  in him,

Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, ¹  sound in faith, in love, and in endurance. ² 

So the Lord’s word to them will sound like meaningless gibberish, senseless babbling, a syllable here, a syllable there. ¹  As a result, they will fall on their backsides when they try to walk, ²  and be injured, ensnared, and captured. ³ 

They judged the people under normal circumstances; the difficult cases they would bring ¹  to Moses, but every small case they would judge themselves.

Suddenly he went ¹  after her like an ox that goes to the slaughter, like a stag prancing into a trapper’s snare ² 

“Please test your servants for ten days by providing us with some vegetables to eat and water to drink.

I ate no choice food; no meat or wine came to my lips, ¹  nor did I anoint myself with oil ²  until the end of those three weeks.

In ¹  everything, treat others as you would want them ²  to treat you, ³  for this fulfills ⁴  the law and the prophets.

“I ¹  am sending you out like sheep surrounded by wolves, ²  so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

In the same way, your Father in heaven is not willing that one of these little ones be lost.

He instructed them to take nothing for the journey except a staff ¹  – no bread, no bag, ²  no money in their belts –

Jesus, intensely moved ¹  again, came to the tomb. (Now it was a cave, and a stone was placed across it.) ² 

As they went through the towns, ¹  they passed on ²  the decrees that had been decided on by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem ³  for the Gentile believers ⁴  to obey. ⁵ 

The local inhabitants ¹  showed us extraordinary ²  kindness, for they built a fire and welcomed us all because it had started to rain ³  and was cold.
