Paul replied, ¹  “I did not realize, ²  brothers, that he was the high priest, for it is written, ‘You must not speak evil about a ruler of your people.’” ³ 

But just as it is written, “Things that no eye has seen, or ear heard, or mind imagined, ¹  are the things God has prepared for those who love him.” ² 

Instead ¹  he finds pleasure in obeying the Lord’s commands; ²  he meditates on ³  his commands ⁴  day and night.

“It was said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife must give her a legal document.’ ¹ 

Now ¹  many have undertaken to compile an account ²  of the things ³  that have been fulfilled ⁴  among us,

Jesus ¹  answered him, ²  “It is said, ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’” ³ 

His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal ¹  for your house will devour me.” ² 

For just as it is written, “the name of God is being blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” ¹ 

and that he was buried, and that he was raised ¹  on the third day according to the scriptures,

And he said to them, “It is written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ ¹  but you are turning it into a den ²  of robbers!” ³ 

Then ¹  Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ ² 

saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house will be a house of prayer,’ ¹  but you have turned it into a den ²  of robbers!” ³ 

Our ancestors ¹  ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” ² 

For the righteousness ¹  of God is revealed in the gospel ²  from faith to faith, ³  just as it is written, “The righteous by faith will live.” ⁴ 

What then? Are we better off? Certainly not, for we have already charged that Jews and Greeks alike are all under sin,

Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will trouble, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? ¹ 

And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How timely ¹  is the arrival ²  of those who proclaim the good news.” ³ 

For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to me, and every tongue will give praise to God.” ¹ 

For even Christ did not please himself, but just as it is written, “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.” ¹ 

For the wisdom of this age is foolishness with God. As it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness.” ¹
