Look how they are repaying us! They come to drive us out of our allotted land which you assigned to us!

Now if a man finds his enemy, does he send him on his way in good shape? May the Lord repay you with good this day for what you have done to me.

It is me – I stir him up and commission him; ¹  I will make all his ways level. He will rebuild my city; he will send my exiled people home, but not for a price or a bribe,” says the Lord who commands armies.

But I thought, ¹  “I have worked in vain; I have expended my energy for absolutely nothing.” ²  But the Lord will vindicate me; my God will reward me. ³ 

He ¹  will reward ²  each one according to his works: ³ 

because you know that each person, whether slave or free, if he does something good, this ¹  will be rewarded by the Lord.

And you may ¹  eat it in any place, you and your household, because it is your wages for your service in the tent of meeting.

So now, go back where you came from! ¹  I said that I would greatly honor you; but now the Lord has stood in the way of your honor.”

The one who plants and the one who waters work as one, ¹  but each will receive his reward according to his work.

Thus whenever you do charitable giving, ¹  do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in synagogues ²  and on streets so that people will praise them. I tell you the truth, ³  they have their reward.

“Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues ¹  and on street corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back. ¹  Then ²  your reward will be great, and you will be sons ³  of the Most High, ⁴  because he is kind to ungrateful and evil people. ⁵ 

For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. ¹ 

If a man denounces his friends for personal gain, ¹  the eyes of his children will fail.

The backslider ¹  will be paid back ²  from his own ways, but a good person will be rewarded ³  for his.

Too bad for the wicked sinners! For they will get exactly what they deserve. ¹ 

Now may the Lord show you true kindness! ¹  I also will reward you, ²  because you have done this deed.

I will deal with the people and priests together: ¹  I will punish them both for their ways, and I will repay them for their deeds.

The ¹  nations ²  were enraged, but ³  your wrath has come, and the time has come for the dead to be judged, and the time has come to give to your servants, ⁴  the prophets, their reward, as well as to the saints and to those who revere ⁵  your name, both small and great, and the time has come ⁶  to destroy those who destroy ⁷  the earth.”

Ahimaaz the son of Zadok again spoke to Joab, “Whatever happens, let me go after the Cushite.” But Joab said, “Why is it that you want to go, my son? You have no good news that will bring you a reward.”
