Twist and strain, ¹  Daughter Zion, as if you were in labor! For you will leave the city and live in the open field. You will go to Babylon, but there you will be rescued. There the Lord will deliver ²  you from the power ³  of your enemies.

Who is like your people, Israel, a unique nation ¹  on the earth? Their God ²  went ³  to claim ⁴  a nation for himself and to make a name for himself! You did great and awesome acts for your land, ⁵  before your people whom you delivered for yourself from the Egyptian empire and its gods. ⁶ 

And who is like your people, Israel, a unique nation ¹  in the earth? Their God ²  went to claim ³  a nation for himself! You made a name for yourself by doing great and awesome deeds ⁴  when you drove out ⁵  nations before your people whom you had delivered from the Egyptian empire and its gods. ⁶ 

And for the redemption of the 273 firstborn males of the Israelites who exceed the number of the Levites,

If a ransom is set for him, ¹  then he must pay the redemption for his life according to whatever amount was set for him.

He will rescue ¹  me and protect me from those who attack me, ²  even though ³  they greatly outnumber me. ⁴ 

I will signal for them and gather them, for I have already redeemed them; then they will become as numerous as they were before.

Why does no one challenge me when I come? Why does no one respond when I call? ¹  Is my hand too weak ²  to deliver ³  you? Do I lack the power to rescue you? Look, with a mere shout ⁴  I can dry up the sea; I can turn streams into a desert, so the fish rot away and die from lack of water. ⁵ 

He redeemed my life ¹  from going down to the place of corruption, and my life sees the light!’

Into your hand I entrust my life; ¹  you will rescue ²  me, O Lord, the faithful God.

The Lord rescues his servants; ¹  all who take shelter in him escape punishment. ² 

O Israel, hope in the Lord, for the Lord exhibits loyal love, ¹  and is more than willing to deliver. ² 

For this is what the Lord says: “You were sold for nothing, and you will not be redeemed for money.”

For the Lord will rescue the descendants of Jacob. He will secure their release ¹  from those who had overpowered them. ² 

And now, though we share the same flesh and blood as our fellow countrymen, ¹  and our children are just like their children, ²  still we have found it necessary to subject our sons and daughters to slavery. ³  Some of our daughters have been subjected to slavery, while we are powerless to help, ⁴  since our fields and vineyards now belong to other people.” ⁵ 

“Do not hold back offerings from your granaries or your vats. ¹  You must give me the firstborn of your sons.

oppresses the poor and the needy, ¹  commits robbery, does not give back what was given in pledge, prays to ²  idols, performs abominable acts,

But when the appropriate time ¹  had come, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

If he has not prospered enough to refund ¹  a balance to him, then what he sold ²  will belong to ³  the one who bought it until the jubilee year, but it must revert ⁴  in the jubilee and the original owner ⁵  may return to his property.

Whatever someone among the Levites might redeem – the sale of a house which is his property in a city – must revert in the jubilee, ¹  because the houses of the cities of the Levites are their property in the midst of the Israelites.
