For forty years I was continually disgusted ¹  with that generation, and I said, ‘These people desire to go astray; ²  they do not obey my commands.’ ³ 

Our ancestors in Egypt failed to appreciate your miraculous deeds, they failed to remember your many acts of loyal love, and they rebelled at the sea, by the Red Sea. ¹ 

But the Lord took note and despised them because his sons and daughters enraged him.

How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and insulted him ¹  in the desert!

They made him angry by the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered ¹  because of them,

It is better to live ¹  in a desert land ²  than with a quarrelsome and easily-provoked ³  woman.
