(Now ¹  they did not know that Joseph could understand them, ²  for he was speaking through an interpreter.) ³ 

I wish that they were wise and could understand this, and that they could comprehend what will happen to them.”

(Now the servant did not understand any of this. Only Jonathan and David knew what was going on.) ¹ 

I would know with what words ¹  he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me.

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters! ¹  Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.

Above all, understand this: ¹  In the last days blatant scoffers ²  will come, being propelled by their own evil urges ³ 

Come, let’s go down and confuse ¹  their language so they won’t be able to understand each other.” ² 

Now I understand that ¹  you have gone away ²  because you longed desperately ³  for your father’s house. Yet why did you steal my gods?” ⁴
