It contained the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered entirely with gold. In this ark ¹  were the golden urn containing the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant.

And so he is the mediator ¹  of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance he has promised, ²  since he died ³  to set them free from the violations committed under the first covenant.

Then I will confirm my covenant ¹  between me and you, and I will give you a multitude of descendants.” ² 

“As for me, ¹  this ²  is my covenant with you: You will be the father of a multitude of nations.

You must circumcise the flesh of your foreskins. This will be a reminder ¹  of the covenant between me and you.

But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year.”

I ¹  have also heard ²  the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, ³  and I have remembered my covenant. ⁴ 

and showing covenant faithfulness ¹  to a thousand generations ²  of those who love me and keep my commandments.

The Israelites must keep the Sabbath by observing the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant.

You must place them ¹  in the tent of meeting before the ark of the covenant ²  where I meet with you.

“Therefore, keep the terms ¹  of this covenant and obey them so that you may be successful in everything you do.

so that you may enter by oath into the covenant the Lord your God is making with you today. ¹ 

The Israelites asked the Lord (for the ark of God’s covenant was there in those days;

Jonathan made a covenant with David, for he loved him as much as he did his own life. ¹ 

and called David’s enemies to account.” So Jonathan made a covenant ¹  with the house of David. ² 

and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel were to blow trumpets regularly before the ark of God’s covenant.

and set up in it a place for the ark containing the covenant the Lord made with the Israelites.”

Please remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, the covenant of the priesthood, ¹  and the Levites.

All this has happened to us, even though we have not rejected you ¹  or violated your covenant with us. ² 

God says this to the evildoer: ¹  “How can you declare my commands, and talk about my covenant? ²
