Now Gehazi went on ahead of them. He placed the staff on the child’s face, but there was no sound or response. When he came back to Elisha ¹  he told him, “The child did not wake up.”

And they began making fun of him. ¹  But he put them all outside ²  and he took the child’s father and mother and his own companions ³  and went into the room where the child was. ⁴ 

So ¹  the woman gave birth to a son, a male child, ²  who is going to rule ³  over all the nations ⁴  with an iron rod. ⁵  Her ⁶  child was suddenly caught up to God and to his throne,

The child grew and was weaned. Abraham prepared ¹  a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. ² 

When the water in the skin was gone, she shoved ¹  the child under one of the shrubs.

He named the second child Ephraim, ¹  saying, ²  “Certainly ³  God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.”

Be keenly aware that just as a parent disciplines his child, ¹  the Lord your God disciplines you.

Manoah said, “Now, when your announcement comes true, ¹  how should the child be raised and what should he do?” ² 

The king then said, “Cut the living child in two, and give half to one and half to the other!”

The king responded, “Give the first woman the living child; don’t kill him. She is the mother.”

The fatherless child is snatched ¹  from the breast, ²  the infant of the poor is taken as a pledge. ³ 

Listen, ¹  my child, ²  to the instruction ³  from ⁴  your father, and do not forsake the teaching ⁵  from ⁶  your mother.

Listen, my child, ¹  and accept my words, so that ²  the years of your life will be many. ³ 

My child, ²  if you have made a pledge ³  for your neighbor, and ⁴  have become a guarantor ⁵  for a stranger, ⁶ 

My child, guard the commands of your father and do not forsake the instruction of your mother.

A foolish child is a grief ¹  to his father, and bitterness to the mother who bore him. ² 

A foolish child ¹  is the ruin of his father, and a contentious wife ²  is like ³  a constant dripping. ⁴ 

Discipline your child, for ¹  there is hope, but do not set your heart ²  on causing his death. ³ 

Do not withhold discipline from a child; even if you strike him with the rod, he will not die.

The father of a righteous person will rejoice greatly; ¹  whoever fathers a wise child ²  will have joy in him.
