And you must not eat any blood of the birds or the domesticated land animals in any of the places where you live. ¹ 

“Tell the Israelites: ‘This is the kind of creature you may eat from among all the animals ¹  that are on the land.

You may eat any among the animals that has a divided hoof (the hooves are completely split in two ¹ ) and that also chews the cud. ² 

This is the law ¹  of the land animals, the birds, all the living creatures that move in the water, and all the creatures ²  that swarm on the land,

“You and Eleazar the priest, and all the family leaders of the community, take the sum ¹  of the plunder that was captured, both people and animals.

Thus they will have towns in which to live, and their grazing lands will be for their cattle, for their possessions, and for all their animals.

The Philistine said to David, “Come here to me, so I can give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the field!” ¹ 

David took all the flocks and herds and drove them in front of the rest of the animals. People were saying, “This is David’s plunder!”

They seized the Hagrites’ ¹  animals, including 50,000 camels, 250,000 sheep, and 2,000 donkeys. They also took captive 100,000 people.

All their neighbors assisted ¹  them with silver utensils, ²  gold, equipment, animals, and expensive gifts, not to mention ³  all the voluntary offerings.

For you will have a pact with the stones ¹  of the field, and the wild animals ²  will be at peace ³  with you.

“But now, ask the animals and they ²  will teach you, or the birds of the sky and they will tell you.

who teaches us ¹  more than ²  the wild animals of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the sky?’

I will offer up to you fattened animals as burnt sacrifices, along with the smell of sacrificial rams. I will offer cattle and goats. (Selah)

I also thought to myself, “It is ¹  for the sake of people, ²  so God can clearly ³  show ⁴  them that they are like animals.

Wild animals will rest there, the ruined ¹  houses will be full of hyenas. ²  Ostriches will live there, wild goats will skip among the ruins. ³ 

No lions will be there, no ferocious wild animals will be on it ¹  – they will not be found there. Those delivered from bondage will travel on it,

“I made the earth and the people and animals on it by my mighty power and great strength, ¹  and I give it to whomever I see fit. ² 

“Indeed, a time is coming,” ¹  says the Lord, ²  “when I will cause people and animals to sprout up in the lands of Israel and Judah. ³ 

I will hand them over to their enemies who want to kill them. Their dead bodies will become food for the birds and the wild animals. ¹
