A person’s wisdom ¹  makes him slow to anger, ²  and it is his glory ³  to overlook ⁴  an offense.

Feasts ¹  are made ²  for laughter, and wine makes life merry, ³  but money is the answer ⁴  for everything.

This is what the Lord says, the one who made a road through the sea, a pathway through the surging waters,

He covers ¹  the sky with clouds, provides the earth with rain, and causes grass to grow on the hillsides. ² 

The Lord both kills and gives life; he brings down to the grave ¹  and raises up.

The one true God ¹  gives ²  me strength; ³  he removes ⁴  the obstacles in my way. ⁵ 

Wealth adds many friends, but a poor person is separated ¹  from his friend. ² 

“If a young ¹  woman who is still living ²  in her father’s house makes a vow to the Lord or places herself under an obligation,

People were completely astounded and said, “He has done everything well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

He deprives the leaders of the earth ¹  of their understanding; ²  he makes them wander in a trackless desert waste. ³ 

But it is a spirit in people, the breath ¹  of the Almighty, that makes them understand.

Do you know how God commands them, ¹  how he makes lightning flash in his storm cloud? ² 

Yet he protected ¹  the needy from oppression, and cared for his families like a flock of sheep.

for the life of every living thing ¹  is in the blood. ²  So I myself have assigned it to you ³  on the altar to make atonement for your lives, for the blood makes atonement by means of the life. ⁴ 

With the rest of it he makes a god, his idol; he bows down to it and worships it. He prays to it, saying, ‘Rescue me, for you are my god!’

“Speak to the Israelites and tell them, ‘When a man makes a special votive offering ¹  based on the conversion value of persons to the Lord, ² 

He brings an end to wars throughout the earth; ¹  he shatters ²  the bow and breaks ³  the spear; he burns ⁴  the shields with fire. ⁵ 

and lays the beams of the upper rooms of his palace on the rain clouds. ¹  He makes the clouds his chariot, and travels along on the wings of the wind. ² 

But against any of the Israelites not even a dog will bark ¹  against either people or animals, ²  so that you may know that the Lord distinguishes ³  between Egypt and Israel.’

If a man ¹  makes a vow ²  to the Lord or takes an oath ³  of binding obligation on himself, ⁴  he must not break his word, but must do whatever he has promised. ⁵
