Then King Belshazzar was very terrified, and he was visibly shaken. ¹  His nobles were completely dumbfounded.

For what benefit is it for a person ¹  to gain the whole world, yet ²  forfeit his life?

For what does it benefit a person ¹  if he gains the whole world but loses or forfeits himself?

(This ¹  was a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection ²  started in the city, and for murder.) ³

The one who oppresses the poor to increase his own gain and the one who gives to the rich ¹  – both end up only in poverty.
