And if we know ¹  that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.

Listen carefully ¹  to my words; let your ears be attentive to my explanation. ² 

“But now, O Job, listen to my words, and hear ¹  everything I have to say! ² 

Pay attention, Job – listen to me; be silent, and I will speak.

If not, you listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.”

Men of understanding say to me – any wise man listening to me says –

“Pay attention to this, Job! Stand still and consider the wonders God works.

The discerning person ¹  acquires knowledge, and the wise person ²  seeks ³  knowledge.

Now all the tax collectors ¹  and sinners were coming ²  to hear him.

My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Consequently faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the preached word ¹  of Christ. ² 

Two or three prophets should speak and the others should evaluate what is said.

For since you are so wise, you put up with ¹  fools gladly.

and not pay attention to Jewish myths ¹  and commands of people who reject the truth.

Then Samuel said, “Does the Lord take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as he does in obedience? ¹  Certainly, ²  obedience ³  is better than sacrifice; paying attention is better than ⁴  the fat of rams.

But if that nation does what displeases me and does not obey me, then I will cancel the good I promised to do to it.

After listening to the king they left, and once again ¹  the star they saw when it rose ²  led them until it stopped above the place where the child was.

It is written in the prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ ¹  Everyone who hears and learns from the Father ²  comes to me.

In the dream the angel of God said to me, ‘Jacob!’ ‘Here I am!’ I replied.

God spoke to Israel in a vision during the night ¹  and said, “Jacob, Jacob!” He replied, “Here I am!”
