Let everyone see your gentleness. ¹  The Lord is near!

But all the young women ¹  who have not had sexual intercourse with a man ²  will be yours. ³ 

so that mankind ¹  might acknowledge your mighty acts, and the majestic splendor of your kingdom.

When ¹  they saw him, ²  they related what they had been told ³  about this child,

O Lord, for the sake of your servant and according to your will, ¹  you have done this great thing in order to reveal your greatness. ² 

You made known to them your holy Sabbath; you issued commandments, statutes, and law to them through ¹  Moses your servant.

If only ¹  you will respond ²  to my rebuke, ³  then ⁴  I will pour ⁵  out my thoughts ⁶  to you and ⁷  I will make ⁸  my words known to you.

Whatever has happened was foreordained, ¹  and what happens to a person ²  was also foreknown. It is useless for him to argue with God about his fate because God is more powerful than he is. ³ 

It will happen in one day (a day known to the Lord); not in the day or the night, but in the evening there will be light. ¹ 

“Do ¹  not be afraid of them, for nothing is hidden ²  that will not be revealed, ³  and nothing is secret that will not be made known.

If ¹  you had known what this means: ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice,’ ²  you would not have condemned the innocent.

For nothing is hidden ¹  that will not be revealed, ²  and nothing concealed that will not be made known and brought to light.

But what if God, willing to demonstrate his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience the objects ¹  of wrath ²  prepared for destruction? ³ 

And what if he is willing to make known the wealth of his glory on the objects ¹  of mercy that he has prepared beforehand for glory –

The purpose of this enlightenment is that ¹  through the church the multifaceted wisdom ²  of God should now be disclosed to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly realms.

Everyone who resides ¹  in him does not sin; ²  everyone who sins has neither seen him nor known him.

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! Certainly, I ¹  would not have known sin except through the law. For indeed I would not have known what it means to desire something belonging to someone else ²  if the law had not said, “Do not covet.” ³ 

They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods they had not known; to new gods who had recently come along, gods your ancestors ¹  had not known about.

I will disturb ¹  many peoples, when I bring about your destruction among the nations, among countries you do not know.

for each tree is known ¹  by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered ²  from thorns, nor are grapes picked ³  from brambles. ⁴
