She has prepared her meat, ¹  she has mixed her wine; she also has arranged her table. ² 

On the day after Gedaliah had been murdered, before anyone even knew about it,

you slaughtered my children and sacrificed them to the idols. ¹ 

So ¹  the Pharisees ²  went out immediately and began plotting with the Herodians, ³  as to how they could assassinate ⁴  him.

While they were striking them down, I was left alone, and I threw myself face down and cried out, “Ah, sovereign Lord! Will you destroy the entire remnant of Israel when you pour out your fury on Jerusalem?”

The Lord said to Moses in Midian, “Go back ¹  to Egypt, because all the men who were seeking your life are dead.” ² 

The sword will make people childless outside, and terror will do so inside; they will destroy ¹  both the young man and the virgin, the infant and the gray-haired man.

They annihilated with the sword everything that breathed in the city, ¹  including men and women, young and old, as well as cattle, sheep, and donkeys.

Joshua did as they said; he kept the Israelites from killing them ¹

The men of Judah attacked Jerusalem and captured it. They put the sword to it and set the city on fire.

Then the men of Israel left Mizpah and chased the Philistines, striking them down all the way to an area below Beth Car.

¹ David prevailed over the Philistine with just the sling and the stone. He struck down the Philistine and killed him. David did not even have a sword in his hand. ² 

Then Saul told his son Jonathan and all his servants to kill David. But Saul’s son Jonathan liked David very much. ¹ 

Then Saul threw his spear at Jonathan ¹  in order to strike him down. So Jonathan was convinced ²  that his father had decided to kill David.

If I had acted at risk of my own life ¹  – and nothing is hidden from the king! – you would have abandoned me.” ² 

He gathered some men and organized a raiding band. ¹  When David tried to kill them, ²  they went to Damascus, where they settled down and gained control of the city.

My enemies’ taunts cut into me to the bone, ¹  as they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” ² 

“I will provoke civil strife in Egypt, ¹  brothers will fight with each other, as will neighbors, cities, and kingdoms. ² 

When they have drunk it, they will stagger to and fro ¹  and act insane. For I will send wars sweeping through them.” ²
