The one who works ¹  his field will have plenty ²  of food, but whoever chases daydreams ³  lacks wisdom. ⁴ 

Hope ¹  deferred ²  makes the heart sick, ³  but a longing fulfilled ⁴  is like ⁵  a tree of life.

The heart knows its own bitterness, ¹  and with its joy no one else ²  can share. ³ 

Even in laughter the heart may ache, ¹  and the end ²  of joy may be ³  grief.

The backslider ¹  will be paid back ²  from his own ways, but a good person will be rewarded ³  for his.

Folly is a joy to one who lacks sense, ¹  but one who has understanding ²  follows an upright course. ³ 

The heart of the righteous considers ¹  how ²  to answer, ³  but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things. ⁴ 

A bright look ¹  brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the body. ² 

The one who refuses correction despises himself, ¹  but whoever hears ²  reproof acquires understanding. ³ 

A person ¹  plans his course, ²  but the Lord directs ³  his steps. ⁴ 

The one who is wise in heart ¹  is called ²  discerning, and kind speech ³  increases persuasiveness. ⁴ 

A wise person’s heart ¹  makes his speech wise ²  and it adds persuasiveness ³  to his words. ⁴ 

A cheerful heart ¹  brings good healing, ²  but a crushed spirit ³  dries up the bones. ⁴ 

Before destruction the heart ¹  of a person is proud, but humility comes ²  before honor. ³ 

The discerning person ¹  acquires knowledge, and the wise person ²  seeks ³  knowledge.

The one who acquires wisdom ¹  loves himself; ²  the one who preserves understanding will prosper. ³ 

Haughty eyes and a proud heart – the agricultural product ¹  of the wicked is sin.
