I will pass through ¹  the land of Egypt in the same ²  night, and I will attack ³  all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both of humans and of animals, ⁴  and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment. ⁵  I am the Lord.

The king of Egypt did not march out from his land again, for the king of Babylon conquered all the territory that the king of Egypt had formerly controlled between the Brook of Egypt and the Euphrates River.

He lived in the wilderness of Paran. ¹  His mother found a wife for him from the land of Egypt. ² 

Now ¹  in Egypt the Midianites ²  sold Joseph ³  to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard. ⁴ 

Seven years of great abundance are coming throughout the whole land of Egypt.

“So now Pharaoh should look ¹  for a wise and discerning man ²  and give him authority ³  over all the land of Egypt.

“See here,” Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I place ¹  you in authority over all the land of Egypt.” ² 

He wept loudly; ¹  the Egyptians heard it and Pharaoh’s household heard about it. ² 

Don’t worry ¹  about your belongings, for the best of all the land of Egypt will be yours.’”

Joseph ¹  made all the people slaves ²  from one end of Egypt’s border to the other end of it.

Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen, and they owned land there. They were fruitful and increased rapidly in number.

Then a new king, ¹  who did not know about ²  Joseph, came to power ³  over Egypt.

The king of Egypt said ¹  to the Hebrew midwives, ²  one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, ³ 

But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go, ¹  not even under force. ² 

“Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt that he must release ¹  the Israelites from his land.”

But I will harden ¹  Pharaoh’s heart, and although I will multiply ²  my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt,

Then Pharaoh also summoned wise men and sorcerers, ¹  and the magicians ²  of Egypt by their secret arts ³  did the same thing.

Fish ¹  in the Nile will die, the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will be unable ²  to drink water from the Nile.”’”

The magicians did the same ¹  with their secret arts and brought up frogs on the land of Egypt too. ² 

Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘About midnight ¹  I will go throughout Egypt, ²
