Many times he delivered ¹  them, but they had a rebellious attitude, ²  and degraded themselves ³  by their sin.

If you, O Lord, were to keep track of ¹  sins, O Lord, who could stand before you? ² 

The wicked ¹  will be captured by his ²  own iniquities, ³  and he will be held ⁴  by the cords of his own sin. ⁵ 

Through loyal love and truth ¹  iniquity is appeased; ²  through fearing the Lord ³  one avoids ⁴  evil. ⁵ 

Those who pull evil along using cords of emptiness are as good as dead, ¹  who pull sin as with cart ropes. ² 

Your misdeeds have stopped these things from coming. ¹  Your sins have deprived you of my bounty.’ ² 

Lord, we confess that we have been wicked. We confess that our ancestors have done wrong. ¹  We have indeed ²  sinned against you.

מ (Mem) But it happened ¹  due to the sins of her prophets ²  and the iniquities of her priests, who poured out in her midst the blood of the righteous.

Our forefathers ¹  sinned and are dead, ²  but we ³  suffer ⁴  their punishment. ⁵ 

They feed on the sin offerings of my people; their appetites long for their iniquity!

They have sunk deep into corruption ¹  as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their wrongdoing. He will repay them for their sins.

In the fourth generation ¹  your descendants ²  will return here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its limit.” ³ 

Therefore ¹  the land has become unclean and I have brought the punishment for its iniquity upon it, ²  so that the land has vomited out its inhabitants.

and the one who eats it will bear his punishment for iniquity ¹  because he has profaned ²  what is holy to the Lord. ³  That person will be cut off from his people. ⁴ 

and so cause them to incur a penalty for guilt ¹  when they eat their holy offerings, ²  for I am the Lord who sanctifies them.’”

But if he should nullify them after he has heard them, then he will bear her iniquity.” ¹ 

So Saul was keeping an eye on David from that day onward.

But Saul swore an oath to her by the Lord, “As surely as the Lord lives, you will not incur guilt in this matter!”

Perhaps the Lord will notice my affliction ¹  and this day grant me good in place of his curse.” ² 

Those truly of Israelite descent ¹  separated from all the foreigners, ²  standing and confessing their sins and the iniquities of their ancestors. ³
