Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” ¹  and call understanding a close relative,

“I, wisdom, live with prudence, ¹  and I find ²  knowledge and discretion.

The beginning ¹  of wisdom is to fear the Lord, ²  and acknowledging ³  the Holy One ⁴  is understanding.

Wisdom is found in the words ¹  of the discerning person, ²  but the one who lacks wisdom ³  will be disciplined. ⁴ 

Carrying out a wicked scheme ¹  is enjoyable ²  to a fool, and so is wisdom for the one who has discernment. ³ 

The speech ¹  of the righteous bears the fruit of wisdom, ²  but the one who speaks perversion ³  will be destroyed. ⁴ 

When pride ¹  comes, ²  then comes disgrace, ³  but with humility ⁴  comes ⁵  wisdom.

With pride ¹  comes only ²  contention, but wisdom is with the well-advised. ³ 

The scorner ¹  seeks wisdom but finds none, ²  but understanding is easy ³  for a discerning person.

The wisdom of the shrewd person ¹  is to discern ²  his way, but the folly of fools is deception. ³ 

Wisdom rests in the heart of the discerning; it is known ¹  even in the heart ²  of fools.

The fear of the Lord provides wise instruction, ¹  and before honor comes humility. ² 

Wisdom is directly in front of ¹  the discerning person, but the eyes of a fool run ²  to the ends of the earth. ³ 

There is no wisdom and there is no understanding, and there is no counsel against ¹  the Lord. ² 

Acquire ¹  truth and do not sell it – wisdom, and discipline, and understanding.

The one who trusts in his own heart ¹  is a fool, but the one who walks in wisdom ²  will escape. ³ 

A rod and reproof ¹  impart ²  wisdom, but a child who is unrestrained ³  brings shame ⁴  to his mother. ⁵ 

She opens her mouth ¹  with wisdom, and loving instruction ²  is on her tongue.

Wisdom, like ¹  an inheritance, is a good thing; it benefits those who see the light of day. ² 

Wisdom gives a wise person more protection ¹  than ten rulers in a city.
