Now some Sadducees ¹  (who contend that there is no resurrection) ²  came to him.

They ¹  blindfolded him and asked him repeatedly, ²  “Prophesy! Who hit you?” ³ 

While he was on his way down, ¹  his slaves ²  met him and told him that his son was going to live.

Then they shouted back, ¹  “Not this man, ²  but Barabbas!” ³  (Now Barabbas was a revolutionary. ⁴ ) ⁵ 

Completely baffled, they said, ¹  “Aren’t ²  all these who are speaking Galileans?

All were astounded and greatly confused, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”

At daybreak ¹  the magistrates ²  sent their police officers, ³  saying, “Release those men.”

When ¹  they heard ²  this they became enraged ³  and began to shout, ⁴  “Great is Artemis ⁵  of the Ephesians!”

and as they were leaving they said to one another, ¹  “This man is not doing anything deserving ²  death or imprisonment.”

They have strayed from the truth ¹  by saying that the resurrection has already occurred, and they are undermining some people’s faith.

and began to shout ¹  when they saw the smoke from the fire that burned her up, ²  “Who is like the great city?”

saying, “Where is the one who is born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose ¹  and have come to worship him.”

And the men ¹  were amazed and said, ²  “What sort of person is this? Even the winds and the sea obey him!” ³ 

They ¹  cried out, “Son of God, leave us alone! ²  Have you come here to torment us before the time?” ³ 

Then the demons begged him, ¹  “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.”

Then John’s ¹  disciples came to Jesus ²  and asked, “Why do we and the Pharisees ³  fast often, ⁴  but your disciples don’t fast?”

After the demon was cast out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowds were amazed and said, “Never has anything like this been seen in Israel!”

A ¹  man was there who had a withered ²  hand. And they asked Jesus, ³  “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” ⁴  so that they could accuse him.

When ¹  the disciples saw him walking on the water ²  they were terrified and said, “It’s a ghost!” and cried out with fear.

But he did not answer her a word. Then ¹  his disciples came and begged him, ²  “Send her away, because she keeps on crying out after us.”
