“For this reason I ¹  am sending you prophets and wise men and experts in the law, ²  some of whom you will kill and crucify, ³  and some you will flog ⁴  in your synagogues ⁵  and pursue from town to town,

“Which one ¹  of you, if he has a hundred ²  sheep and loses one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture ³  and go look for ⁴  the one that is lost until he finds it? ⁵ 

But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus had already known from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.) ¹ 

and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, by whom ¹  Jesus was born, who is called Christ. ² 

And which of you by worrying can add even one hour to his life? ¹ 

Is ¹  there anyone among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

But if we say, ‘From people,’ we fear the crowd, for they all consider John to be a prophet.”

And while they were eating he said, “I tell you the truth, ¹  one of you will betray me.” ²

They discussed with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’

But if we say, ‘From people – ’” (they feared the crowd, for they all considered John to be truly a prophet).

When the slave girl saw him, she began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.”

After this he appeared in a different form to two of them while they were on their way to the country.

to a virgin engaged ¹  to a man whose name was Joseph, a descendant of David, ²  and the virgin’s name was Mary.

because a friend of mine has stopped here while on a journey, ¹  and I have nothing to set before ²  him.’

What father among you, if your ¹  son asks for ²  a fish, will give him a snake ³  instead of a fish?

But some of them said, “By the power of Beelzebul, ¹  the ruler ²  of demons, he casts out demons.”
