When the wall has collapsed, people will ask you, “Where is the whitewash you coated it with?”

The ¹  younger of them said to his ²  father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate ³  that will belong ⁴  to me.’ So ⁵  he divided his ⁶  assets between them. ⁷ 

the oracle of the one who hears the words of God, and who knows the knowledge of the Most High, who sees a vision from the Almighty, although falling flat on the ground with eyes open:

If you build a new house, you must construct a guard rail ¹  around your roof to avoid being culpable ²  in the event someone should fall from it.

The earth will stagger around ¹  like a drunk; it will sway back and forth like a hut in a windstorm. ²  Its sin will weigh it down, and it will fall and never get up again.

He becomes the victim of his own destructive plans ¹  and the violence he intended for others falls on his own head. ² 

Even if ¹  he trips, he will not fall headlong, ²  for the Lord holds ³  his hand.

He ¹  will descend like rain on the mown grass, ²  like showers that drench ³  the earth. ⁴ 

Also, anything they fall on ¹  when they die will become unclean – any wood vessel or garment or article of leather or sackcloth. Any such vessel with which work is done must be immersed in water ²  and will be unclean until the evening. Then it will become clean.

Surely, no one ¹  knows his appointed time! ²  Like fish that are caught in a deadly ³  net, and like birds that are caught in a snare – just like them, all people ⁴  are ensnared ⁵  at an unfortunate ⁶  time that falls upon them suddenly.

All the stars in the sky will fade away, ¹  the sky will roll up like a scroll; all its stars will wither, like a leaf withers and falls from a vine or a fig withers and falls from a tree. ² 

Aaron must then present the goat which has been designated by lot for the Lord, ¹  and he is to make it a sin offering,

Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? ¹  Yet not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. ² 

We must perform the deeds ¹  of the one who sent me ²  as long as ³  it is daytime. Night is coming when no one can work.

Is not their excess wealth ¹  taken away from them? ²  They die, ³  yet without attaining wisdom. ⁴ 

Calamity is ¹  hungry for him, ²  and misfortune is ready at his side. ³ 

From heaven you announced what their punishment would be. ¹  The earth ²  was afraid and silent

Wealth does not profit in the day of wrath, ¹  but righteousness delivers from mortal danger. ² 

¹ The sovereign master ²  decreed judgment ³  on Jacob, and it fell on Israel. ⁴ 

A man uses it to make a fire; ¹  he takes some of it and warms himself. Yes, he kindles a fire and bakes bread. Then he makes a god and worships it; he makes an idol and bows down to it. ²
