“For just as the new heavens and the new earth I am about to make will remain standing before me,” says the Lord, “so your descendants and your name will remain.

But if we are afflicted, ¹  it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort that you experience in your patient endurance of the same sufferings that we also suffer.

What is my strength, that I should wait? ¹  and what is my end, ²  that I should prolong my life?

but, despite their wealth, people do not last, ¹  they are like animals ²  that perish. ³ 

Give the king long life! Make his lifetime span several generations! ¹ 

So when we could bear it no longer, we decided to stay on in Athens ¹  alone.

No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. ¹  And God is faithful: He ²  will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, ³  but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it.

For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one’s life. ¹  One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning. ² 

As a result we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and afflictions you are enduring.

Think of how we regard ¹  as blessed those who have endured. You have heard of Job’s endurance and you have seen the Lord’s purpose, that the Lord is full of compassion and mercy. ² 

Your house and your kingdom will stand before me ¹  permanently; your dynasty ²  will be permanent.’”

A song of ascents. ²  Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion; it cannot be upended and will endure forever.

And I cried out, ¹  “We are doomed! ²  Our wound is severe! We once thought, ‘This is only an illness. And we will be able to bear it!’ ³ 

So this is what the sovereign Lord says: I vow ¹  that the nations around you will endure insults as well.

You will be hated by everyone because of my name. ¹  But the one who endures to the end will be saved. ² 

Then Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment ¹  is too great to endure! ² 

For I suffer ¹  humiliation for your sake ²  and am thoroughly disgraced. ³ 

I weep and refrain from eating food, ¹  which causes others to insult me. ² 

Let Israel say, “Yes, his loyal love endures!”

Let the family ¹  of Aaron say, “Yes, his loyal love endures!”
