People ¹  were eating, ²  they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage – right up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then ³  the flood came and destroyed them all. ⁴ 

Likewise, just as it was ¹  in the days of Lot, people ²  were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building;

So he threw a big banquet ¹  for them and they ate and drank. Then he sent them back ²  to their master. After that no Syrian raiding parties again invaded the land of Israel.

Then David summoned him. He ate and drank with him, and got him drunk. But in the evening he went out to sleep on his bed with the servants of his lord; he did not go down to his own house.

But the poor man had nothing except for a little lamb he had acquired. He raised it, and it grew up alongside him and his children. ¹  It used to ²  eat his food, ³  drink from his cup, and sleep in his arms. ⁴  It was just like a daughter to him.

So the king assigned them a daily ration ¹  from his royal delicacies ²  and from the wine he himself drank. They were to be trained ³  for the next three years. At the end of that time they were to enter the king’s service. ⁴ 

For just as you ¹  have drunk ²  on my holy mountain, so all the nations will drink continually. ³  They will drink, and they will gulp down; they will be as though they had never been.

You went back and ate and drank in this place, even though he said to you, “Do not eat or drink there.” ¹  Therefore ²  your corpse will not be buried in your ancestral tomb.’” ³ 

Three hundred men lapped; ¹  the rest of the men ²  kneeled to drink water.

He woke up early in the morning on the fifth day so he could leave, but the girl’s father said, “Get some energy. ¹  Wait until later in the day to leave!” ²  So they ate a meal together.

Wake up! Wake up! Get up, O Jerusalem! You drank from the cup the Lord passed to you, which was full of his anger! ¹  You drained dry the goblet full of intoxicating wine. ² 

They spent three days feasting ¹  there with David, for their relatives had given them provisions.

They waited for me as people wait ¹  for the rain, and they opened their mouths ²  as for ³  the spring rains.

I made all of these other people drink it: Pharaoh, king of Egypt; ¹  his attendants, his officials, his people,

You have followed the ways of your sister, so I will place her cup of judgment ¹  in your hand.

And now when you eat and drink, are you not doing so for yourselves?’”

Then Ezra got up from in front of the temple of God and went to the room of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. While he stayed ¹  there, he did not eat food or drink water, for he was in mourning over the infidelity of the exiles.

You have eaten no bread and drunk no wine or beer – all so that you might know that I ¹  am the Lord your God!

He made cursing a way of life, ¹  so curses poured into his stomach like water and seeped into his bones like oil. ² 

but ¹  the earth came to her rescue; ²  the ground opened up ³  and swallowed the river that the dragon had spewed from his mouth.
