“Yes, I know what you are thinking, ¹  the schemes ²  by which you would wrong me. ³ 

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind: ² 

Violent men perjure themselves, ¹  and falsely accuse me. ² 

I will hurry off to a place that is safe from the strong wind ¹  and the gale.”

Deliver me from evildoers! ¹  Rescue me from violent men! ² 

Each one will be handed over to the sword; ¹  their corpses will be eaten by jackals. ² 

For they suffer no pain; ¹  their bodies ²  are strong and well-fed. ³ 

Arrogance is their necklace, ¹  and violence their clothing. ² 

they would have swallowed us alive, when their anger raged against us.

For they eat bread ¹  gained from wickedness ²  and drink wine obtained from violence. ³ 

he plots evil with perverse thoughts ¹  in his heart, he spreads contention ²  at all times.

a false witness who pours out lies, ¹  and a person who spreads discord ²  among family members. ³ 

Hatred ¹  stirs up dissension, but love covers all transgressions. ² 

Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause, ¹  and do not deceive with your words. ² 

Scornful people ¹  inflame ²  a city, ³  but those who are wise turn away wrath.

“This is what the sovereign Lord says: A disaster ¹  – a one-of-a-kind ²  disaster – is coming!

You ¹  build Zion through bloody crimes, ²  Jerusalem ³  through unjust violence.

The ¹  rest seized his slaves, insolently mistreated them, and killed them.

(For they were afraid, and he did not know what to say.) ¹ 

By now a strong wind was blowing and the sea was getting rough.
