But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, 1  and they began to contradict 2  what Paul was saying 3  by reviling him. 4

Both Paul and Barnabas replied courageously, 1  “It was necessary to speak the word of God 2  to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy 3  of eternal life, we 4  are turning to the Gentiles. 5

When the Gentiles heard this, they began to rejoice 1  and praise 2  the word of the Lord, and all who had been appointed for eternal life 3  believed.

So the word of the Lord was spreading 1  through the entire region.

But the Jews incited 1  the God-fearing women of high social standing and the prominent men of the city, stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them out 2  of their region.

But the Jews who refused to believe 1  stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds 2  against the brothers.

So they stayed there 1  for a considerable time, speaking out courageously for the Lord, who testified 2  to the message 3  of his grace, granting miraculous signs 4  and wonders to be performed through their hands.
