The king replied, “I know for sure that you are attempting to gain time, because you see that my decision is firm.

If you don’t inform me of the dream, there is only one thing that is going to happen to you. 1  For you have agreed among yourselves to report to me something false and deceitful 2  until such time as things might change. So tell me the dream, and I will have confidence 3  that you can disclose its interpretation.”

The wise men replied to the king, “There is no man on earth who is able to disclose the king’s secret, 1  for no king, regardless of his position and power, has ever requested such a thing from any magician, astrologer, or wise man.

He changes times and seasons, deposing some kings and establishing others. 1  He gives wisdom to the wise; he imparts knowledge to those with understanding; 2

Then King Nebuchadnezzar bowed down with his face to the ground 1  and paid homage to Daniel. He gave orders to offer sacrifice and incense to him.

Then King Nebuchadnezzar sent out a summons to assemble the satraps, prefects, governors, counselors, treasurers, judges, magistrates, 1  and all the other authorities of the province to attend the dedication of the statue that he 2  had erected.

When you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, 1  trigon, harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, you must 2  bow down and pay homage to the golden statue that King Nebuchadnezzar has erected.

Whoever does not bow down and pay homage will immediately 1  be thrown into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire!”

Therefore when they all 1  heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, trigon, harp, pipes, 2  and all kinds of music, all the peoples, nations, and language groups began bowing down and paying homage to the golden statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had erected.
