For you all are sons of the light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of the darkness.

After they had passed the first and second guards, ¹  they came to the iron ²  gate leading into the city. It ³  opened for them by itself, ⁴  and they went outside and walked down one narrow street, ⁵  when at once the angel left him.

Then the eyes of both of them opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

So now, you are banished ¹  from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.
