He said to them, “Listen, ¹  when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water ²  will meet you. ³  Follow him into the house that he enters,

He continued, ¹  “I tell all of you the solemn truth ²  – you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” ³ 

Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter his mother’s womb and be born a second time, can he?” ¹ 

Now this is the basis for judging: ¹  that the light has come into the world and people ²  loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil.

Jesus told him, “Go home; ¹  your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and set off for home. ² 

The sick man answered him, “Sir, ¹  I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up. While I am trying to get into the water, ²  someone else ³  goes down there ⁴  before me.”

Jesus said, “Have ¹  the people sit down.” (Now there was a lot of grass in that place.) ²  So the men ³  sat down, about five thousand in number.

Do not work for the food that disappears, ¹  but for the food that remains to eternal life – the food ²  which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has put his seal of approval on him.” ³ 

Jesus said to them, “I tell you the solemn truth, ¹  unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, ²  you have no life ³  in yourselves.

Then Jesus said, ¹  “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, ²  and I do nothing on my own initiative, ³  but I speak just what the Father taught me. ⁴ 

He replied, ¹  “The man called Jesus made mud, ²  smeared it ³  on my eyes and told me, ⁴  ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and was able to see.” ⁵ 

The man replied, ¹  “This is a remarkable thing, ²  that you don’t know where he comes from, and yet he caused me to see! ³ 

When a woman gives birth, she has distress ¹  because her time ²  has come, but when her child is born, she no longer remembers the suffering because of her joy that a human being ³  has been born into the world. ⁴ 

“I have revealed ¹  your name to the men ²  you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, ³  and you gave them to me, and they have obeyed ⁴  your word.

The girl ¹  who was the doorkeeper said to Peter, “You’re not one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” ²  He replied, ³  “I am not.”

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among people ¹  by which we must ²  be saved.”

When they saw the boldness ¹  of Peter and John, and discovered ²  that they were uneducated ³  and ordinary ⁴  men, they were amazed and recognized these men had been with Jesus.

saying, “What should we do with these men? For it is plain ¹  to all who live in Jerusalem that a notable miraculous sign ²  has come about through them, ³  and we cannot deny it.

Before it was sold, ¹  did it not ²  belong to you? And when it was sold, was the money ³  not at your disposal? How have you thought up this deed in your heart? ⁴  You have not lied to people ⁵  but to God!”

saying, “We gave ¹  you strict orders ²  not to teach in this name. ³  Look, ⁴  you have filled Jerusalem ⁵  with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man’s blood ⁶  on us!”
