Meanwhile Saul, still breathing out threats ¹  to murder ²  the Lord’s disciples, went to the high priest

Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have the honor over me ¹  – when shall I pray for you, your servants, and your people, for the frogs to be removed ²  from you and your houses, so that ³  they will be left ⁴  only in the Nile?”

The destroyer is as good as dead, ¹  you who have not been destroyed! The deceitful one is as good as dead, ²  the one whom others have not deceived! When you are through destroying, you will be destroyed; when you finish ³  deceiving, others will deceive you!

That is what will result from your making me angry by what you are doing. ¹  You are making me angry by sacrificing to other gods here in the land of Egypt where you live. You will be destroyed for doing that! You will become an example used in curses ²  and an object of ridicule among all the nations of the earth. ³ 

I will give you into their hands and they will destroy your chambers and tear down your pavilions. They will strip you of your clothing and take your beautiful jewelry and leave you naked and bare.

The Lord has issued a decree against you: ¹  “Your dynasty will come to an end. ²  I will destroy the idols and images in the temples of your gods. I will desecrate ³  your grave – because you are accursed!” ⁴ 

But he did not lay a hand ¹  on the leaders of the Israelites, so they saw God, ²  and they ate and they drank. ³ 

I will lay your cities waste ¹  and make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will refuse to smell your soothing aromas.

“Get away from this community, so that I can consume them in an instant!” But they threw themselves down with their faces to the ground. ¹ 

The Lord your God will give them over to you; he will throw them into a great panic ¹  until they are destroyed.

Just like the nations the Lord is about to destroy from your sight, so he will do to you ¹  because you would not obey him. ² 

As for the cities of these peoples that ¹  the Lord your God is going to give you as an inheritance, you must not allow a single living thing ²  to survive.

You will plant vineyards and cultivate them, but you will not drink wine or gather in grapes, because worms will eat them.

“Come to my aid ¹  so we can attack Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and the Israelites.”

Joshua said, ¹  “Now put aside the foreign gods that are among you and submit to ²  the Lord God of Israel.”

The Lord said to him, “Ah, but ¹  I will be with you! You will strike down the whole Midianite army.” ² 

and called David’s enemies to account.” So Jonathan made a covenant ¹  with the house of David. ² 

When David realized that Saul was planning to harm him, ¹  he told Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod!”

So I am ready to burn up ¹  Baasha and his family, and make your family ²  like the family of Jeroboam son of Nebat.

Zimri destroyed Baasha’s entire family, just as the Lord had predicted to Baasha ¹  through Jehu the prophet.
