Afterward ¹  it bites like a snake, and stings like a viper.

One of the members of the prophetic guild, speaking with divine authority, ordered his companion, “Wound me!” ¹  But the man refused to wound him.

All your allies have abandoned you. ¹  They no longer have any concern for you. For I have attacked you like an enemy would. I have chastened you cruelly. For your wickedness is so great and your sin is so much. ² 

My enemies’ taunts cut into me to the bone, ¹  as they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” ² 

Like one who takes off a garment on a cold day, ¹  or like vinegar poured on soda, ²  so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart. ³ 

Why do you complain about your injuries, that your pain is incurable? I have done all this to you because your wickedness is so great and your sin is so much.

Indeed God strikes the heads of his enemies, the hairy foreheads of those who persist in rebellion. ¹ 

I will strike you brutally ¹  and destroy you because of your sin.

Will you still say, “I am a god,” before the one who kills you – though you are a man and not a god – when you are in the power of those who wound you?

fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth – just as he inflicts an injury on another person ¹  that same injury ²  must be inflicted on him.

But suddenly Babylonia will fall and be destroyed. ¹  Cry out in mourning over it! Get medicine for her wounds! Perhaps she can be healed!

For ¹  he ²  wounds, ³  but he also bandages; he strikes, but his hands also heal.

It makes its tail stiff ¹  like a cedar, the sinews of its thighs are tightly wound.

But God will shoot ¹  at them; suddenly they will be ²  wounded by an arrow. ³ 

but in the end ¹  she is bitter ²  as wormwood, ³  sharp as a two-edged ⁴  sword.

He will be beaten and despised, ¹  and his reproach will not be wiped away; ² 

The light of the full moon will be like the sun’s glare and the sun’s glare will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, ¹  when the Lord binds up his people’s fractured bones ²  and heals their severe wound. ³

Lamech said to his wives, “Adah and Zillah! Listen to me! You wives of Lamech, hear my words! I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man ¹  for hurting me.

For the power ¹  of the horses resides ²  in their mouths and in their tails, because their tails are like snakes, having heads that inflict injuries.
