How often ¹  are they like straw before the wind, and like chaff swept away ²  by a whirlwind?

When the storm ¹  passes through, the wicked are swept away, ²  but the righteous are an everlasting foundation. ³ 

Now ¹  the dragon’s ²  tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth. Then ³  the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born.

He will not escape the darkness; ¹  a flame will wither his shoots and he will depart by the breath of God’s mouth. ² 

But now, the sun ¹  cannot be looked at ²  – it is bright in the skies – after a wind passed and swept the clouds away. ³

The waves ¹  of death engulfed me, the currents ²  of chaos ³  overwhelmed me. ⁴ 

My days are coming to an end, ¹  and I am withered like grass.

The sea has swept over Babylon. She has been covered by a multitude ¹  of its waves. ² 

And the news of this spread throughout that region. ¹ 

Then he will show you a large furnished room upstairs. Make preparations there.”

By now a strong wind was blowing and the sea was getting rough.

These men are ¹  dangerous reefs ²  at your love feasts, ³  feasting without reverence, ⁴  feeding only themselves. ⁵  They are ⁶  waterless ⁷  clouds, carried along by the winds; autumn trees without fruit ⁸  – twice dead, ⁹  uprooted;

The Lord rules forever! ¹  The nations are driven out of his land. ²
